this was my favorite:
Mike Soulliere (Sandwich Secondary School) wrote at 3:41pm yesterday "fuck yeah. fuck spending 20$ extra going to shitty america and like you said getting harrassed by fucking poor pieces of shit. fuck that"
I’m not going to go ever this thread with a fine tooth comb or talk about all the shit I (thoroughly) disagree with in it. I will say this though, what is the fucking point of this? Are these shows even booked yet? You need peoples support to book the shows? We used to bring lots of big hardcore bands to Windsor (some were even ‘broootal mosh', unfortunately), and we didn’t need anyone to hold our hands. We’d just fucking do it, flyer our asses off, and that was that. It doesn’t (didn’t) have to be in some huge shitty venue like the roxy or the chubby pickle. Some of the best shows this city has seen were in basements, abandoned furniture stores, practice spaces, dive bars, community centers, and even a Mexican restaurant. People are way too concerned these days with faux professionalism and creating fake ass ‘companies’ to promote their shows, instead of just doing it right. If you have a problem with the place on Ottawa , then you really don’t “get” any of this.

okay i was expecting somthing like that from this forum. instead of whining that im not doing anything that " you" would like, message me and tell me what you people like. i dont like your music either trust me. im open to all suggestions. im working with all sorts of bookers, not just hardcore. as for the homeless in detroit...come on. i understand theres a situation, and ill help when i can, but its redicoulous that you have to almost fear for your life if you dont give. when theres 10 of them around u all staring you down cause they know u have money to get shirts and shit, it sucks. you cant bring pot to the states, you get interrogated at the border. it sucks. if any of you think its an "epic fail" , to each their own obviously, i dont wanna hear your whining, at least im trying to do somthing about it. as of right now, im thinking that whatever windsor had/has needs to be re-evaluated. Theres no reason windsor cant be like london, or toronto. someone just has to have the balls to make it happen. i dont see anyone else doing something. at least im not booking my friends band at ottawa charging 7$ a head and making hand over fist money, im trying to give somthing worth the while, and the cash. if anything getting these bands into windsor, will give opportunities to younger bands to showcase what theyve got. who wouldnt wanna play on the stage at roxy? i know i would. If you want to book generic hardcore bands to play in windsor, that's up to you, but I don't see how it has anything to do with helping local bands or the scene. Tons of "good" bands come through here all the time (i.e. Social Code, The Ataris, Drowning Pool, etc, etc.) if you define "good" as signed to a major label and making lots of money. The majority of kids in windsor who play music seriously like to take pride in and maintain a DIY ethic. I'm more than happy to book a show myself in someone's basement, print hundreds of flyers and hand them out all over town. Hell, I might even lose some money in the process. I'm into music because I love music, not because I want to be famous. It's a whole different ballpark. The guys in charge of Ottawa are doing what they do to provide a safe, drug-free environment for local musicians and fans of local musicians to hang out and enjoy themselves. The kids who go these shows and pay the $7 to get in know that they're giving their money to a worthy cause. It takes a lot of dough and a lot of work to keep something like that going, and I'm more than happy to give my measly 7 bucks to something worthwhile than an overpaid record company. I'm not trying to say you shouldn't book bands to play in windsor, by all means, I think the more music in Windsor the better. I just think that kids should understand that there's better ways to "showcase your talent" than waiting for an already successful band to show up in your town. Book a goddamn tour yourself, play some shows, get your name out there. Hard work, that's how everyone else does it. P.S. Stop complaining that you can't bring your weed over the border. It's illegal. And homeless people harassing you? Come on, for real? Shut up. " If you have a problem with the place on Ottawa , then you really don’t “get” any of this." This line alone is all that needs to be said on this whole topic.

all very good points. the place on ottawa is doing very well for itself, and i even considered looking into it for a venue, but its definitely too small, its perfect for whats going on there right now for sure tho, i mean tonnes of kids prolly go. lets not open the book up on why marijuana should be legalized. we'll just agree to disagree. yeah..homeless people harassing me. it happens every fucking time i go over there, you cant sit at mcdonalds and eat, without a guy comming up to u while you are sitting and eating, harassing you for money, not just "can u spare change" its more like.."come on man i know you gots money" i understand economy over there is definitely at an all time low, but work for it at least. theres a rapper called lil foot hes homeless, but i more than willingly will chill with him, and give him money ...why? cause he has talent., when you need to get money off of people u dont know, you should at least try to wow them. you ever seen mark? the guy in a wheelchair d/t windsor? he does card tricks. i gladly give him money. so dont make me out to be some bum hating jew ball. you can only give so much.

I've been to a bunch of shows in detroit and i dont think ive ever been "harrassed" by any homeless people, sure theres more of them than in windsor since its a bigger city, but i find they just do their thing and when you walk by they just ask for money, i usually just shrug my shoulders and say sorry. Also, you say you'll give money to the homeless with talent, so say some crackhead is rapping on a street corner for change to get his fix, and across the street some guy is sitting up against a wall not saying anything and is actually starving or cold or something. Who would you give money to?

Most bands from the states would probably rather play Detroit, and have some canucks come over the border to see them, as opposed to play Detroit, then try to get across the border and play another show over here.
The last (and only) time I went over to detroit I got asked for change by homeless people on the way in and out of the venue. Big deal, I gave it to them both times, they seemed like nice enough people whether or not they were bsing me, I can spere $5 in loonies. One even gave me a poem he wrote, ha.
Oh, and why would you try and bring weed across the border? Smoke before or after if you have to at all that day.
Anyways, I love this forum.

as of right now, im thinking that whatever windsor had/has needs to be re-evaluated. why? Theres no reason windsor cant be like london, or toronto. There are many reasons why, and why would you want that anyways? The way I see it, Windsor should be a breeding ground for good musicians, because instead of having big concerts to go to every night it is simply easier to just play/write the music you want to hear. I think the fact that I can count the talented musicians in windsor on one hand means that you all need to stop worrying about booking shows and you need to start fucking practicing and honing your craft. I really have no desire to actually attend MORE shitty shows with shitty fucking bands in this city. Windsor will never be like Toronto simply because their local music scene is actually comprised of MUSICIANS. if anything getting these bands into windsor, will give opportunities to younger bands to showcase what theyve got. why is it that bands like orphan choir and what seas what shores can make a name for themselves but all of these "younger bands" need big names to come to our city in order to "showcase what they've got"? It is called working hard. They make their own opportunities, they get their name out there on their own. Like Jim said, they don't need to be spoon fed. I'd also like to mention that I'd way rather travel to see a big band in detroit at a venue that doesnt suck ass then have them come here and watch our "sound engineers" a.k.a bartender a.k.a club owner a.k.a doesn't know how to work rented equipment from long and mcquades ruin the whole fucking thing. I hear they are having big bands play at the casino, hell billy joel and michael bolton performed there within the last few weeks! You should try to get a job booking for them and just leave us the hell alone.

so should i only give money to homeless people who can do an amusing trick? That's my motto. Unless they REALLY wow me I'm keeping my fucking 25 cents. I mean come on I worked hard for that shit. They should all clean themselves up and get a job.

I dont see why people who are the victims of the economic system should have to demean themselves by doing stupid tricks for middle class white kids in exchange for some food. It's not a fucking carnival. Its real life, dick.
