Ampeg SVT Classic Ampeg SVT II (Pro or non-pro) Mesa 400+ Marshall VBA 400 Fender Bassman 300 PRO

I'd recommend Vintage Ampeg SVT or SVT classic, amazing tone, and louder than you'll ever use.

I have considered vintage gear, but its just not my thing. There's usually a lot of maintenance involved and theyre bloody expensive. I'd rather stick to something newer. Also, I'm looking locally and I highly doubt anybody in Windsor has a vintage SVT laying around that they want to get rid of.
Best amp I ever played was an Ampeg SVT-VR. Its out of my price range though.
Thanks guys

You can find some good vintage amps for pretty cheap. For example the Ampeg V4 (above) usually goes for $500-$700 on e-bay. They sound great, sic Ampeg tone at a fraction of what you would pay for a SVT. I've had one for three years now and I've never had to do any maintenance on it (aside from replacing the power supply cord when I first got it). Just get a good road case and you're good to go.

The V4 is definitely a great head. But 100 watts is not gonna cut it, tube or not.

unless you're playing second bass in motorhead, i can't see 100 watts being too quiet.

its really not about wattage more than it is signal and class.
a vox 30 watt head could beat out my 5150 which is 120 watts.
my jmp 2203, which im running at 50 watts could out to my 1500 power amp.
a 100 watt v4 will cut it, trust me.

Bass needs a lot more watts than guitar does, especially to reproduce the lower frequencies. I'm sure that 100 watts is adequate, but I've also heard from many people who used the V4 that it breaks up really quickly.
The more headroom, the better.

Wow. Such a valid argument. Seriously, whats your problem?...I mean thanks for the suggestions but what you're recommending is not what I'm looking for.
